Position Details

  • Provide high-level legal support to the Judges of the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court on a wide range of criminal matter;
  • Legal focus – VPS Grade 4 – Melbourne CBD Location;
  • Victoria's highest court is seeking a lawyer with significant legal experience to start as soon as possible.

About us

  • The Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria has original jurisdiction over the most serious criminal matters, such as, homicide offences, and matters involve serious criminality, such as, terrorism offences.

About the role

  • Provide significant level of expert legal support to the Judges of the Criminal Division under the supervision of the Criminal Division Senior Legal Officer;
  • Establish and implement practice and procedure relevant to the Criminal Division;
  • Provide expert guidance and authoritative advice to key stakeholders;
  • Develop briefs, background papers, policy statements, and draft memoranda, rulings and judgments which demonstrate a high level of legal knowledge and analytical skills;
  • Initiate and respond to complex research requests from Judges using expert legal knowledge;

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications in law, preferably admitted to practice.  Post admission experience in either civil or criminal litigation, in a court and/or tribunal environment;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Organised, driven and enjoy working in a fast-paced team environment;
  • Ability to self-manage and work collaboratively with others;
  • Ability to build lasting relationship with both internal and external stakeholders;
