Position Details

  • Provide high-level legal support to the Judges of the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court on a wide range of criminal matters;
  • Legal focus – VPS Grade 4 – Melbourne CBD Location;
  • Victoria's highest court is seeking a lawyer with significant legal experience to start as soon as possible.

About us:

  • The Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria has original jurisdiction over the most serious criminal matters, such as, homicide offences, and matters that involve serious criminality, such as, terrorism offences.

About the role:  

  • Provide significant level of expert legal support on applications and reviews to the Judges of the Criminal Division under the supervision of the Criminal Division Senior Legal Officer;
  • Assist with the establishment and implementation of new practice and procedure relevant to the Criminal Division;
  • Provide expert guidance and authoritative advice to key stakeholders;
  • Draft memoranda, chronology, rulings and judgments which demonstrate a high level of legal knowledge and analytical skills;
  • Initiate and respond to complex research requests from Judges using expert legal knowledge;

About you:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law.  Post admission experience in either civil or criminal litigation is preferred;
  • Strong research and written communication skills;
  • Organised, driven and enjoy working in a fast-paced team environment;
  • Ability to self-manage and work collaboratively with others;
  • Ability to build lasting relationship with both internal and external stakeholders.
