Position Details

Associate to a Judicial Registrar

Supreme Court of Victoria

  • Full time, fixed term role
  • $68,884 per annum + 9.5% superannuation (VPS Grade 3 position)
  • Role based in the Melbourne CBD

The Judicial Registrar is seeking a legally qualified individual to be their associate commencing as soon as possible, for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the Common Law Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria, and to closely observe the work of a Judicial Registrar.

To be successful in this position, you will have a strong interest in Common Law.  You will have excellent time management skills, being able to balance the administrative demands of chambers with legal research, writing and editing tasks.  Post graduate legal experience, although not necessary for the role, is desirable.  Proficiency in grammar and a strong academic record are essential.

Duties include:

  • Providing high level administrative and operational assistance to the Judicial Registrar including diary management;
  • Research tasks including drafting case summaries and providing assistance in the preparation of decisions and sentences;   
  • Liaising with Court staff, the public and the profession
  • Clerking in Court
  • Attending circuits in regional Victoria
