Position Details

The Juries Act 2000 provides for the operation and administration of a system of trial by jury that equitably spreads the obligation of jury service amongst the community; makes juries more representative of the community; and permits the timely adoption of new technologies for the selection of persons for jury service.

The Juries Commissioner's Office (JCO) ensures a sufficient number of Victorian citizens are available to serve as jurors in criminal and civil trials. The JCO continually strives to improve jury management processes to meet the needs of courts while minimising inconvenience to citizens.

For administrative purposes, the JCO sits within the Supreme Court of Victoria and is made up of the Juries Commissioner and 20 staff in Melbourne and across regional Victoria. The JCO operates from the County Court of Victoria building. JCO staff are appointed under the Public Administration Act 2004 and the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2016.

As a Juries Officer you will be responsible for providing general and administrative support to ensure the successful day-to-day operations of the Melbourne office.  This can involve answering phone and counter enquiries, providing information on jury service, attending Court, communicating with Court staff and other administrative tasks.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills.  You will be enthusiastic and will not be afraid to present information to groups.  You will also be organised, have excellent computer and data entry skills, and be able to work within a small team.  Experience working in a professional office environment is highly regarded.

We provide a comprehensive employee benefit program and the opportunity to participate in professional growth and development programs.

Please note, occasional regional travel may be required, including overnight stay.
