Position Details

Associate to the Honourable Justice John Dixon

Supreme Court of Victoria

 

  • Full time, fixed term role
  • $68,884 per annum + 9.5% superannuation (VPS Grade 3 position)
  • Role based in the Melbourne CBD 

The Honourable Justice John Dixon is seeking a legally qualified individual to be his Associate, commencing late August, 2019, for a fixed period of 12 months. There may be a possibility of extension.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in the Common Law Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria, working directly with the Principal Judge of the list.

To be successful in this position, you will have a genuine interest in torts, specifically defamation and economic torts, and common law class actions. You will preferably have several years' post‑admission experience in the litigation department of a law firm (or similar).

Excellent organisational, research and written communication skills, personal qualities suitable for liaising with the profession and members of the public, as well as a strong academic record, are highly desirable.

Duties include:

  • preparing research memoranda and assisting in the production of judgments, including proofreading and editing;
  • clerking in court;
  • performing administrative tasks, including maintaining Court records and preparing material for use by the judge in Court; and
  • liaising with Court staff, the public and the profession.
