Position Details

Associate to the Honourable Justice Jane Dixon

Supreme Court of Victoria

The Honourable Justice Jane Dixon is seeking a legally qualified individual to be her Associate commencing in July, 2020. The role is for an initial period of 12 months, with the possibility for extension.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria. An interest, or post-admission experience in this area would be advantageous.

Excellent written communication skills, personal qualities suitable for liaising with the profession and members of the public, as well as a strong academic record are essential.  An individual with up to two years post-grad experience, would be desirable.

Duties include:

  • Preparing research and briefing memoranda and assisting in the production of judgments, papers and presentations, including proofreading and editing
  • Performing administrative tasks, including maintaining Court records and preparing material for use by the judge in Court
  • Speaking in Court – empanelling juries, taking verdicts and arraigning the accused
  • Liaising with Court staff, the public, the media and the profession.
