About the SES
Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) is the control agency during emergency response to flood, severe storm, earthquake, tsunami and landslide in Victoria, and is the largest provider of road rescue in the state. The Role:

The Community Development Program Advisor will work as a part of the Community Connections Business Unit to support the Senior Advisor – Partnerships & Campaigns to review and develop high quality community development programs. Programs must be evidence based with continuous improvement embedded in their design and delivery, and meet the Strategic Objectives, Goals and Strategic Outcomes of the VICSES Community Resilience Strategy 2016-2019.

The position liaises with a wide variety of stakeholders both within the emergency management sector and with other community, government and business organisations in the development and implementation of these programs.

This position also represents VICSES on multi agency committees and working groups which focus on community development and community engagement.

A current Working With Children Check is essential requirement of this role

This position is based at the VICSES Head Office, located at 168 Sturt Street, Southbank, VIC, 3006.

Your accountabilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Enhance community resilience by supporting the ongoing review and development of VICSES community resilience programs in accordance with VICSES legislative obligations, policy and corporate planning. Align community resilience programs with community development principles, VICSES behaviour change models, and the IAP2 principles.
  • Support the delivery of training and professional development for VICSES volunteers who deliver community engagement and resilience building programs and liaise with service delivery staff to ensure that training records are kept up to date.
  • Support the Community Connections Business Unit to maintain and develop key partnerships with emergency service organisations and other networks that support the VICSES Community Resilience Strategy with a focus on community development principles, and represent VICSES on relevant multi agency committees and working groups.
  • This position participates in the State Media Duty Officer (SMDO) roster. This roster is shared across the Community Resilience and Communications Directorate and requires the SMDO to be on standby as part of an ongoing roster. During this time the SMDO is required to respond to media calls outside normal business hours from 6am -10pm daily. This role is remunerated in accordance with the current EBA.
  • There is opportunity to undertake Incident Management Team training and to participate in the State Control Centre roster.
  • Some out of hours work and travel will be required to attend meetings and events or as part of incident management operations.

You will have:

  • Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills including conference/workshop, presentations and public speaking
  •      Strong organisational skills including the ability to project manage, prioritise tasks and prepare reports and presentations
  • Strong facilitation and networking skills
  • Knowledge understanding and experience in community development, IAP2, capacity building and risk management principles and practices
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
  • A current driver's licence
