Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) is the control agency during emergency response to flood, severe storm, earthquake and tsunami in Victoria, and is the largest provider of road rescue in the state.

The Role:

This is one of multiple roles responsible for project managing the acquisition of land and the design, construction and fitout of facilities for volunteer run units in accordance with local government planning requirements, building codes/regulations/standards and work health and safety requirements.  These projects must be delivered according to an approved construction project management framework on time, to scope and to cost and quality standards. This role reports directly to the Manager Facilities and Capital works and is required to display strong leadership to support the delivery of the project outcomes for VICSES and its stakeholders in a dynamic and challenging environment.

 Your accountabilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to VICSES ability to achieve its strategic objectives by developing and evaluating construction tenders ensuring specifications, safety, quality and timeliness as well as cost are rated in the tender evaluations.

 

  • Lead and project manage on behalf of VICSES the delivery of the major capital works construction projects, obtaining statutory approvals and ensuring adherence to industry regulations/codes/standards and VICSES safety policies and procedures.

 

  • Support VICSES ability to achieve its strategic objectives by ensuring the appropriate project governance structure is established to meet the requirements of the organisation, to prioritise, manage and monitor the various project lifecycles from conception to delivery and to manage stakeholder expectations.

 

  • Enhance VICSES ability to achieve its objectives with the adoption of appropriate risk mitigation and communications strategies, and providing regular progress reports to the Project, Planning and Risk business unit, project control group, relevant Managers, staff and volunteers and external stakeholders including the Department of Justice and Regulation, Emergency Management Victoria and the Emergency Services Infrastructure Authority.

About you:

You must be able to deliver the project according to an approved construction project management framework on time, to scope and to cost and quality standards.

 You will have:

  • proven ability to manage the appointment of external consultants and contractors.
  • liaise with local authorities and manage the acquisition of statutory building approvals
  • liaise with the Department of Justice and Regulation, Emergency Management Victoria and the Emergency Services Infrastructure Authority (ESIA) when established
  • liaise and negotiate with external landlords including other Government Departments and Local Councils
  • liaise with other relevant Government department & agencies.
  • current driver licence
