About the branch
The Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch enjoys an extraordinary diversity of exciting and challenging matters. The cases are frequently topical, often involve public interest issues and offer exposure to a broad range of legal issues.These include, but are not limited to, general and Police civil claims and tortious claims, State care and personal injury matters, negligence, Crimes (Mental Impairment & Unfitness to be Tried) Act matters, Serious Offenders Act matters and inquests. The teams provide specialist legal services to a large number of government clients and departments.

About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Solicitor to join our Justice and Supervision Team to provide high quality legal services for one of our key clients, Corrections Victoria. In this role you will advise, conduct and manage litigation in relation to the Serious Offenders Act 2018, under the supervision of and reporting directly to a Managing Principal Solicitor.


  • Assist in the provision of high level, practical written advice on a variety of legal issues arising under the Act, including advice on decision making powers, statutory interpretation and prosecution
  • Prepare, manage and conduct litigation in relation to the Act and related legislation in the County Court and Supreme Court 
  • Provide advice to Youth Justice on issues arising under the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005
  • Provide support to other streams of work undertaken by the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Branch (e.g. inquests and personal injuries claims)

Skills and experience

  • Admitted to practice as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Victoria
  • Minimum of one year post admission experience in a legal practice environment
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the practice and procedures of various Courts
  • Proven ability to provide oral and written advice on complex and sensitive matters
  • Criminal law experience will be highly regarded but not essential
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team
