The opportunity

The Senior Legislation Officer is responsible for assisting with the legislative program of the SRO and contributing to the development of policy.

Reporting to the Manager, Legislation and Government Relations, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing high-level advice on the development of new legislation or legislative amendments to stakeholders.
  • Preparing drafting instructions, Ministerial briefs, Cabinet submissions, and legislative briefing materials for stakeholders.
  • Providing parliamentary and ministerial support, including preparation of responses to questions on notice, adjournment debates, questions without notice, constituency questions and possible parliamentary questions.

Who we are looking for

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in developing primary and subordinate legislation, preferably in a taxation or revenue context, and an understanding of Government, parliamentary and legislative processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of policy proposals and programs and the provision of high-quality policy advice, preferably in a taxation environment.
  • High-level (written, verbal and interpersonal) communication skills to work effectively with stakeholders, negotiate outcomes, and prepare high‑level documents such as drafting instructions and Cabinet submissions.
