Senior Technical Officer
- One (1) fixed term position (up to 10 months) in the Knowledge Management Branch
- Salary $100,894 plus 12% superannuation – VPS Grade 4
- Based in Melbourne CBD or Ballarat, with hybrid working arrangements

The opportunity
The Senior Technical Officer is responsible for developing and supporting a strong knowledge-sharing culture within the State Revenue Office (SRO) by contributing to the SRO's external and internal tax technical knowledge bases and assisting with knowledge management activities across the organisation.
Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Helping maintain and improve content on the SRO's tax technical knowledge bases, including the external website
- Reviewing key private rulings, legal opinions, court decisions, objections, and other materials
- Interpreting and applying legislation and understanding decisions on medium to complex state tax matters
- Promoting the value of sharing tax technical knowledge and encouraging a knowledge-driven culture throughout the SRO
- Liaising and negotiating with Branches to secure their timely contributions to SRO's knowledge systems.
Who we are looking for
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and application of complex legislation in a legal and commercial environment.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare clear and concise written materials to simplify complex issues with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
A tertiary qualification in law or a tertiary qualification that demonstrates an understanding of the law will be highly advantageous.
