Position Details
The Policy Officer roles are part of the Animal Welfare Policy team that provides advice to the Minister for Agriculture and senior executive officers about animal welfare policy, regulation and reform. The positions will contribute to diverse, complex and challenging projects relating to state policy and regulation development and national projects such as development and implementation of Australian animal welfare standards and guidelines.
To be successful, candidates will be able to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines. They will be an agile problem solver who can work independently or collaboratively to achieve high quality outcomes. The positions require experience working on policy and regulatory projects paired with strong research, communication, and analysis skills.
The successful applicants will work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, enjoy flexible working arrangements, and undertake a wide variety of work across the division.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- A relevant tertiary degree would be well regarded.
- High level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear policy papers, reports, concise briefings and presentations for diverse audiences and to meet short, critical timelines.
- An understanding, or an ability to quickly acquire an understanding, of animal welfare issues, science and concepts, including the application of relevant legislation is desirable.
This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2026. The work location for this position is 475-485 Mickleham Road, Attwood with hybrid work arrangements available.
