About the Business Unit:

Courts, Civil and Criminal Law is part of the Department of Justice and Community Safety and supports the Attorney General to deliver courts, civil and criminal law policy responsibilities. Courts, Civil and Criminal Law supports 28 independent legal entities across the justice portfolio, working collaboratively across the justice system. The group also supports Civil and Enforcement Services (CES), which includes Fines Victoria and Sheriff's Office Victoria.

Enforcement and Support Services (ESS) is a branch of CES and manages the administration and enforcement of infringement and court fines across the state. The role of the CES unit includes providing advice to the Attorney-General and the government on infringements policy, scrutinising all proposals to introduce new infringement offences or review existing infringements, and providing information to stakeholders (including enforcement agencies) on the operation of the infringements system.

ESS administers a range of social justice initiatives, such as the Work and Development Permit Scheme, Family Violence Scheme and Time Served Scheme. 

About the Role:

The Review Officer will work within Enforcement and Support Services, which is a branch of Civil and Enforcement Services.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Providing support to the Operations Team Lead to ensure the successful administration of the Fines Reform Act 2014
  • Exercising professional judgement regarding the application of Standards of Service and other relevant rules, policies and guidelines to assist in the day-to-day operations of Fines Victoria, including the determination of payment arrangements and enforcement review applications and handling general enquiries
  • Providing accurate and timely advice and liaise with other Fines Victoria units, enforcement agencies, and other interested parties on infringement and other matters arising within the jurisdiction of Fines Victoria.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • An understanding of the infringement lifecycle, the Infringements Act 2006 and the Fines Reform Act 2014, or experience in the practical application of other legislation or policies
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office and relevant IT systems and applications.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field or relevant experience is desirable.
