About the role:
We are seeking highly motivated and experienced lawyers and senior lawyers to join our Summary Crime team.

You will act as a lawyer and advocate by undertaking legal work and duty lawyer services in courts  across Melbourne including the night court at Melbourne Magistrates' Court, providing expert legal advice and conducting high level casework primarily in criminal law and other related matters. You will also engage in community legal education projects, law reform and other VLA projects as required. Depending on level of experience, you will also supervise the provision of our legal aid services.

This position will require you to work duty lawyer shifts at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on a rotating seven day (including, evenings, weekends and public holidays) roster. This presents a unique opportunity for experienced lawyers to be part of an expanding service with a strong focus on increasing client access to legal aid services.

About you:
You will have the practical experience in providing quality legal services with the capacity to work as an advocate and caseworker in criminal law jurisdiction and other related matters. You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of external organisations, private practitioners, community and welfare groups in the delivery of legal aid services.

To be successful in this role you will be adaptable and demonstrate your commitment to working collaboratively with others and fostering a supportive team environment to effectively address client's needs.  You will have a passion for advocating for clients and demonstrate a willingness to contribute to the promotion of our organisation and its values.
