About the role:
We are seeking experienced senior lawyers to provide day to day operational management of a team of legal staff, in collaboration with the Managing Lawyer. You will act as a senior lawyer and advocate by undertaking complex legal work and duty lawyer services, providing expert legal advice and conducting high level casework. You will also assist in the development and implementation of strategies and policies to improve client service including community legal education projects, law reform and other VLA projects as required.

This is an opportunity for an experienced lawyer with a keen interest in leading and managing a team of dedicated staff and contributing to improving legal aid services provided to vulnerable individuals and groups in the community.

The positions in Summary Crime and at the Frankston office are full time ongoing and the Youth Crime position is full time maximum term up to 12 months. The Summary Crime and Youth Crime positions will be based in Melbourne.

About you:
You will be an experienced lawyer looking to take the next step in your career and an interest in people management. You will have people management and leadership capability with the ability to develop, manage and motivate a legal team and support staff. You will have substantial knowledge or practical experience in the law and relevant court procedures and demonstrate the capacity to work as an advocate and case worker in complex criminal law or youth crime matters. You will be able to provide strategic advice on legal and policy issues and demonstrate an understanding of the role of external stakeholders in the delivery of legal aid services.

To be successful in this role you will have high level interpersonal skills including the ability to provide clear, constructive and timely advice and to communicate effectively and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds. You will also demonstrate a willingness to contribute to the promotion of our organisation's vision and values.
