Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

VCAT
The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) is a justice service that resolves a wide range of disputes for the Victorian community, including renting, planning, and consumer disputes. VCAT is committed to delivering an accessible service for all Victorians and is transforming our digital products and services to make it faster, easier, and more convenient for people to come to the tribunal.
About the Role
The Specialist Registrar and Lawyer will work alongside Members in the Land and Environment Division, including the Head of Division and the various Heads of Lists, to oversee case management. This will have a particular focus on triaging and managing cases within the Land and Environment Divisions, particularly the Owners Corporation List.
You will be responsible for:
- utlising your expert knowledge of the Building (domestic and commercial) and Property jurisdictions, and litigation processes to manage and oversee the daily review, triage, and assessment of new applications and correspondence received from parties
- actively engaging in processes to assist in the management of proceedings throughout the case lifecycle to ensure adherence to standard processes and identifying and removing barriers to resolution pathways
- providing advice and procedural guidance, contributing to knowledge and capability development of staff
- preparing case correspondence ensuring compliance with case timelines
- building and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external
- actively monitoring legislative changes and providing timely advice and guidance regarding those changes
- leading implementation of process improvement opportunities within the Land and Environment Division to achieve greater efficiency and timeliness of decision making by Members
About You
The ideal candidate will have excellent legal and procedural experience, particularly in Building and Property law, Consumer law and litigation more generally. You will also have:
- strong analytical and decision-making skills
- proven ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and users
- demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills within a team environment
- ability to build strong networks using evidence to advocate for change and influence decision-makers
- ability to manage complex projects from design to implementation; ensuring deliverables meet quality and requirements
- a commitment to service excellence with a focus on high standards and quality outcomes
This position is fixed term for 12 months
