About this opportunity
The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is establishing a candidate pool for Elections Project Advisors to support the delivery of the 2026 Victorian State Election, to be held 28 November 2026.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to one of Victoria's most significant civic events. As an Elections Project Advisor, you will work in a fast-paced, high-volume operational environment, supporting the integrity, accuracy and transparency of election outcomes.
Upon applying, candidates will be assessed for suitability for the pool. If successfully progressed through the recruitment process, candidates will then be considered for fixed-term roles as vacancies arise across the VEC. Being placed in the candidate pool does not guarantee an offer of employment.
During periods of peak operational activity, particularly in the lead‑up to the election, employees may be required to temporarily work from other metropolitan locations, including election hubs. On occasion, travel to country Victoria may also be required, and this may involve overnight stays.
Why join us
At the VEC, we enable all Victorians to actively participate in their democracy. We deliver state and local council elections and promote public awareness and understanding of electoral matters.
You will gain valuable experience in large-scale election operations, complex logistics, and time-critical project delivery, while working alongside experienced professionals. The VEC offers a collaborative, values-driven workplace with a strong focus on integrity, inclusion, accountability, and service excellence.
A day in the life of an Elections Project Officer
You will take an active role in coordinating election operations, working across planning, counting and delivery activities to support timely outcomes. You'll coordinate tasks across multiple workstreams, monitor progress against milestones, and work closely with internal stakeholders to keep delivery on track. The role suits someone who is comfortable applying judgement, managing competing priorities, and adapting quickly in a fast‑paced, time‑critical environment—especially during peak election periods when responsiveness and flexibility are essential in meeting legislative deadlines.
You will have demonstrated experience in
- Managing defined projects or workstreams end to end, including planning activities, tracking milestones and coordinating inputs to deliver outcomes in fast‑paced environments.
- Applying judgement to resolve project or delivery issues, identify and manage risks, and escalate matters as required within established frameworks.
- Preparing clear, accurate briefings, reports and documentation that support informed decision-making and are fit for audit and reporting purposes.
- Providing analysis and practical insights that inform operational or program decisions and improve delivery effectiveness.
- Building strong working relationships across teams, communicating clearly, and providing guidance or support to contribute to coordinated outcomes.
How the candidate pool works
- A candidate pool is a group of candidates who have been assessed as suitable for a role
- We anticipate that this pool will remain active for VEC to select from whenever election staffing needs arise
- During this time candidates may be contacted and offered a casual or fixed-term role as needs arise
- Roles may vary in duration, start date, and work area
- Successful placement in the candidate pool does not guarantee selection for employment
