Position Details

The Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) helps the government achieve its strategic objectives by supporting the Premier, Deputy Premier, the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples, Industrial Relations, Government Services, as well as the Cabinet. 

The FPSR group is responsible for nation leading work in the areas of cultural rights, self-determination, treaty and truth - an extensive program of priority work with First Peoples. We recognise Victoria's First Peoples as the self-determining drivers of Aboriginal affairs in Victoria. We are committed to building ongoing, just and respectful relationships between self-determining First Peoples and the state as a priority focus.

FPSR is looking for a proven executive, a passionate leader committed to progressing the Victorian Government's nation leading work with First Peoples through their strategic leadership and high-quality public administration.

The Director will lead the Office of the Deputy Secretary and support the strategic direction of the broader Group in a dynamic, high performing and culturally safe way.

Reporting into the Deputy Secretary, First Peoples - State Relations, this role will focus on collaborating across the Group on deliverables and supporting the effective and efficient operations of the Group.

About You

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Strong leadership experience at a senior level that works with the team to foster a strong and collaborative team culture
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience in policy analysis and advice to inform and shape government policy and programs relevant to the Aboriginal Affairs portfolio
  • Demonstrated project management and organisational skills
  • Exceptional written communication skills
