Position Details

Multiple positions available - 2x Fixed term - 3 years

An exciting and unique opportunity exists for talented and passionate individuals to join the Traditional Owner Relationships and Heritage Branch as Heritage Information Spatial Systems Officer to contribute to the ground-breaking work of the Group in the areas of truth, treaty, self-determination and cultural rights.

The responsibilities of the Heritage Services team include administering the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006, maintaining a register of Aboriginal places and objects, working collaboratively with Registered Aboriginal Parties, and fulfilling the Secretary's role in administering Cultural Heritage Permits and Cultural Heritage Management Plan.

As the Heritage Information Spatial Systems Officer, you will collect data from various internal and external sources and process, edit, manipulate this data to ensure its accuracy, quality and useability for inclusion in the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Register and First Peoples State Relations' spatial systems. Contributing to strategic policy development in relation to spatial information will also be an essential requirement of this role.

Please note, a tertiary degree in Geographic Information Systems or a degree in a relevant discipline involving advanced studies in Geographic Information Systems is a desirable requirement for this role.

  • Strong fundamental skills in GIS and proven experience with ESRI ArcGIS software with some exposure to the use of their ArcPy and Modelbuilder applications.
