About the role

South West Healthcare are welcoming applications from new Graduates who are eligible for enrolment in the Clinical Psychology Registrar Program for July 2024.

The Clinical Psychology Graduate is positioned within the Allied Health Graduate Program (AHGP). This program has been designed to support new graduates transition from student to psychologist and facilitate endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist. The position is supported within a structured registrar program led by senior psychologists and educators. There is a strong focus within the program on professional growth and learning through regular supervision, reflective practice, professional development, and self-care. The clinical psychology graduate is embedded within a multidisciplinary team, working alongside experienced psychologists, while delivering evidence-based assessments and recovery orientated interventions. Psychology Registrars will be provided with rotations across diverse settings in the mental health service. These rotations are designed to provide the registrar with the opportunity to develop the necessary competencies for clinical endorsement while also providing professional growth in experiencing a diversity of clinical care. The Clinical Psychology Graduate program follows the guidelines of the Department of Health, Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program Package (2022) incorporating 4 hours of protected learning time per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in specific psychological clinical activities, including assessments, formulation and evidence-based, recovery focused treatments
  • Manage a clinical case load appropriate for a clinical registrar
  • Actively participate in the SWH Allied Health Graduate Program including appropriate professional development education programs

Position Overview

  • Full-Time (80 hours per fortnight). Fixed Term position for 2 years
  • ADO entitlement 
  • Warrnambool Campus

This position is eligible for an incentive payment for rent, childcare, relocation costs and more, as part of the new workforce and incentive grants program administered by Rural Agency Workforce Victoria (RWAV).

What you bring 

  • Registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) by mid 2024
  • A masters or doctoral degree in clinical psychology from an APAC accredited course.
  • Be eligible to enrol in the Clinical Psychology registrar program
  • The ability to demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge and understanding off contemporary evidence-based best practice in mental health assessment, treatment, and care with the ability to be able to reference relevant legislation, policies and procedures, including the Mental Health Act 2014 and its amendments.
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with consumers, families and professional colleagues and other health care providers
