About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Principal Solicitor to make a strong and meaningful contribution as an experienced senior member of a team within the Commercial, Property & Technology Branch.  This role will provide high level legal advice and representation for government bodies on various issues, but primarily in relation to Commercial, Information Technology and Intellectual Property law.  In addition, this position will assist the Managing Principal Solicitor in supervising and overseeing the work of a team of solicitors, client relationship management, marketing activities and growing the practice.

Skills and experience of the successful applicant

You are an experienced lawyer with a strong understanding of the principles and practice of commercial law and good working knowledge of IT and IT procurement, together with sound judgment.  You have a demonstrated ability to provide effective written and/or oral advice on highly complex and sensitive matters and to influence stakeholders.  You can manage projects and proactively manage client expectations. 

You will also have:

  • demonstrated experience in business development and client relationship management, with the ability to develop positive and effective relationships in order to support the branch and its practice areas
  • demonstrated ability to perform complex analysis, provide professional leadership, supervision and mentoring to staff
  • a strong sense of working collaboratively, and
  • a service oriented approach
