About the branch
The Police Branch provides legal services, strategic advice and representation to the Chief Commissioner of Police and, by extension, all Victoria Police personnel across the State. The Police Branch is involved in a diverse range of matters, including but not limited to:

  • Criminal law, police duties, powers and responsibilities;
  • Statutory interpretation, criminal disclosure obligations and subpoenas;
  • Administrative law, privacy and information sharing;
  • Forensic procedures and intervention order applications; and
  • Summary prosecutions and emergency management.
  • Please note this role would be located at Victoria Police's corporate headquarters.

About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for a dedicated Legal Assistant to join our Police Branch as part of the legal support team that provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of solicitors. Day to day responsibilities would include:

  • Preparing correspondence and court documents – drafting and typing;
  • Assisting in preparing matters for court, including liaising with clients, witnesses and barristers;
  • Amending & formatting documents;
  • File management – maintaining orderly, up to date legal files in electronic and hard copy format;
  • Diary and email management – monitoring emails, calendars and recording deadlines;
  • Reception duties; and
  • General administration – photocopying, couriers, billing.

Skills and experience

  • Demonstrated experience providing legal support;
  • Confident in providing high quality and responsiveness legal administrative assistance to more than one solicitor;
  • Experience in, and willingness to, provide receptionist duties;
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to operate autonomously; and
  • Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to service excellence.

Please note a requirement of this role is holding a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance or be willing to obtain one.
