About the branch

The Inquiries, Prosecutions and Administrative Law Branch comprises a number of legal teams that provide specialist legal services and advice to the State in relation to; regulation, administrative law and disciplinary reviews, Inquiries and Royal Commissions.

The Inquiries teams provide specialist legal services and legal advice in relation to Inquiries and Royal Commissions including:

  • Establishment of Royal Commissions (exclusive services)
  • Management of notices to produce including document review
  • Witness and hearing preparation
  • Briefing and instructing counsel
  • State submissions and strategic responses
  • Project management and reporting

The Administrative and Regulatory Law teams provide litigation services and legal advice in the following areas:

  • Merits review of administrative decisions and related court proceedings
  • Investigations and criminal procedure
  • Business and occupational licensing
  • Conduct reviews, professional disciplinary proceedings and summary prosecutions
  • Freedom of information, information sharing and privacy
  • Integrity body inquiries

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Legal Assistant to join our Inquiries, Prosecutions and Administrative Law Branch and provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of solicitors. Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Preparing correspondence and relevant documents – drafting and typing (dictaphone)
  • Liaising with clients, witnesses and barristers
  • Amending & formatting documents
  • File management – maintaining orderly, up to date legal files in electronic and hard copy format
  • Diary and email management – monitoring emails, calendars and recording deadlines
  • Telephone assistance – both incoming and screening
  • General administration – photocopying, couriers, billing, relieving reception

Skills and experience

  • Demonstrated experience providing legal administrative support
  • Confident in providing high quality and responsiveness legal administrative assistance to more than one solicitor
  • Strong understanding of court systems and procedures, including knowledge of legal terminology and an ability to conduct research using online databases and systems
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to operate autonomously
  • Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to service excellence
