About the branch

The Commercial, Property and Technology (CP&T) Branch assists government clients to conduct significant transactions and projects, manage their corporate affairs and acquire, manage or dispose of land, goods or services. The branch offers specialist services in IP/IT, property and Native Title. It offers deep commercial expertise with a government perspective.

About the role

We're looking for a committed and enthusiastic lawyer with a commercial background, in the early stage of their legal career, to join the Commercial, Property & Technology Branch. We'll empower you to build your own practice and client relationships and give you plenty of opportunities to develop your skills to provide practical and strategic legal advice. The issues we deal with are diverse and interesting, and the government context provides unique challenges. In addition to core commercial work, you'll also have an opportunity to work across several areas of law, including supporting our technology, property and native title teams.

  • Manage your own matters from start to finish (with appropriate supervision) and develop your client relationships
  • Draft and negotiate a range of commercial legal documents
  • Provide high quality commercial legal advice to government on complex and challenging legal issues
  • Undertake research and analysis that really matters
  • Skills and experience
  • Admitted to practice as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Victoria
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic principles and practice of commercial law
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and client relationship management skills
  • Flexibility and the ability to manage competing priorities (with supervision and support)
