We role-model the Victorian Public Sector values and VGSO's Our Compass, which guides how we work together in everything we do: Proud of what we do; Value every voice; Learn, grow, thrive; Always evolving; Act with care.

About the role

We are seeking a Precedent Developer (Legal Precedents and Automation) to develop, automate and maintain high quality legal precedents including structured and automated documents, partner with legal branches to ensure their precedent-related needs are met, and maintain the VGSO  precedent system. The role has an emphasis on developing new precedents, building and maintaining the precedent library, conducting training and promoting  knowledge sharing initiatives.

This role will be responsible for further improving the Knowledge Management (KM) Strategy to embed a knowledge sharing culture which builds on over 170 years of legal services to the Victorian Government and public sector.

The key responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Develop new precedents and amend existing precedents
  • Implement precedent changes to ensure all precedents remain up to date, including liaising with external service providers
  • Partner with legal branches to identify precedent related needs across VGSO and obtain legal content for the creation and improvement of precedent documents
  • Directly support and assist solicitors as they prepare substantive content for inclusion in precedent documents
  • Adopt best practice approaches, including conducting precedent audits to meet the needs and requirements of the office and to ensure high standards are maintained
  • Drive and promote the precedent development function, including effective communication of precedent updates and knowledge sharing capability to relevant parties

The ideal candidate will have solid experience in the legal industry and strong IT skills, especially with precedent software and content management systems (including tools such as HotDocs, XpressDox, Active Docs, Smarter Drafter, or equivalent), document assembly platforms, Word styles and advanced Microsoft Word functionality.

You will have great attention to detail and consistently produce high-quality work. A proactive attitude and good problem-solving skills are essential.
