About the Role

The VPS3.2 Supervising Police Custody Officers (PCOs) will oversee and coordinate the day to day operations of a team of VPS2 PCOs. The Supervising PCO role offers a stimulating, challenging and rewarding career. You will be a valued member of the local Police team and play a crucial role in the management and welfare of persons in custody. 

 

The responsibilities of the Supervising PCO role include:

  • Supervise and coordinate the day to day operations of a team of PCOs.
  • Supervise the health, safety and wellbeing of staff, contractors, visitors and persons in custody.
  • Monitor and improve the quality of service delivery to ensure that processing occurs in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Oversee the receipt, processing and release of persons in custody and demonstrate the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders along with court escort and court duties.
  • Carry out prisoner management functions for more complex prisoners, in accordance with established legislation, policies and procedures, including preparing correspondence, attendance registers, creation of reports and other administrative tasks whilst ensuring appropriate follow-up action is taken when required.
  • Monitor, supervise and undertake the administration and/or personnel functions of the Unit, providing motivation, mentoring, performance management and coordination of training activities to team members.
