About the role
VLA is launching a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind service designed to provide integrated support and advocacy to clients on remand.
Our Integrated Remand Support and Advocacy Service (IRSAS) will bring allied health, legal, housing, cultural supports and other community services together to assist people through the complexities of being on remand. Our goal is to offer holistic, trauma-informed support that meets our clients' complex legal and non-legal needs.
We are looking for an experienced Team Leader to build, manage, and guide a multidisciplinary team of allied professionals to deliver and develop this important service, as a member of the IRSAS leadership team.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a new, transformative service within the criminal justice system.
This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office and Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wurundjeri Country.
To meet our clients' needs, this role works a 7-day rotating roster, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
About you
Our ideal candidate will bring:
- Experience leading a multidisciplinary team, ideally within the criminal justice, mental health, legal, or community service sectors. You build cohesion, engage stakeholders and create a supportive environment that grows team members' resilience and wellbeing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative, problem-solving approach.
- A solid understanding of trauma-informed practice and significant experience in providing support and advocacy services to vulnerable individuals in complex systems.
- Strong knowledge of the criminal justice system, including the challenges and needs of individuals on remand.
- Ability to navigate organisational change and lead a team through service improvements and evolving service models.
Don't meet every requirement? At VLA, we understand that your work and life experiences can be just as valuable. If you're excited about this role but your CV doesn't align perfectly with our job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or one of our many other opportunities.
