  • 2x full time ongoing positions in our Summary Crime and Therapeutic Courts teams (part-time considered)
  • 1x full time fixed term position to March 2026 in our Summary Crime team (part-time considered)
  • Salary range: $62,123 - $76,425 (pro rata) plus super plus salary packaging
  • Up to $15,900 in salary packaging and hybrid WFH & office model

About the role
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to provide administrative support to our Summary Crime and Therapeutic Courts teams. As a Legal Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of our client services. You will triage client queries at court and in the office, as well as provide information and referrals to the public, legal practitioners, and other community services.

You will provide legal administrative support to our lawyers, including client data entry, file management, preparation of legal documents, and some roles will also include front-desk reception duties. Additionally, this role requires performing court work, addressing client inquiries, and assisting with various court-related tasks.

This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country.

About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Experience in providing administrative support, ideally gained within a legal environment, and/or the ability to provide client focused services in a complex, confidential and sensitive environment. 
  • Strong organisational, problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritise workloads, meet timelines and work under pressure to ensure efficient and effective delivery of VLA services. 
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team, contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
