About the role
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is currently seeking a Senior Lawyer to join our Internal Legal Services (ILS) team and provide high quality legal advice and responsive services in a range of matters, including statutory compliance (privacy and freedom of information), complaints, and professional legal obligations.

You will provide high-level legal advice across all areas of VLA regarding our compliance obligations, manage the investigation of complaints and provide training and support to staff. As a senior team member, you will maintain a high level of autonomy whilst supporting VLA staff.

In addition to this you will have the opportunity to participate in the projects of business units across VLA, the development of ILS business planning, and contribute to training and development opportunities for staff and other stakeholders.

This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country.

About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Substantial experience as a legal practitioner with the ability to provide quality legal advice in a broad range of complex and high-level matters, preferably within the public sector environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills which will be implemented when providing guidance, training and leadership to colleagues and clients alike.
  • High-level problem-solving and analytical skills, applying your skills in a way which is sensitive and appropriate for the needs of VLA and its clients.
  • Experience in clearly presenting complex legal content to audiences is also desirable.
