Forensic Services Department

Fingerprint Sciences Group 

  • 1 x VPS-2 Ongoing role available
  • VPSG2 range $50,077 - $57,192 p.a. + 9.5%super + leave loading
  • Commencing salary will be $50,077
  • Working within the Forensic Services Department, located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod VIC 3085
  • Your usual place of work will be within the Fingerprint Sciences Group, Forensic Services Department, 31 Forensic Drive, Macleod VIC 3085; however you may be required to work at any division within the Department as required.

The Victoria Police Forensic Services Department is an accredited laboratory that provides a professional forensic service to Victoria Police, persons involved with the administration of justice and the public. 

About the role:

As the successful applicant, some of your duties will include:

  • Undertake data entry, including the creation and updating of records in relation to fingerprints on the corporate database (LEAP)
  • Undertake data checking, validation and maintenance to ensure that information received is recorded accurately, and take remedial action to rectify data integrity issues
  • Draft correspondence to internal and external stakeholders, prepare statistical reports and compile daily statistical returns
  • Provide information and advice to internal and external stakeholders on policies, processes and court orders, and provide referrals where necessary
  • Liaise with members of Victoria Police, employees of the judicial system, interstate fingerprint bureaus, and members of the public
  • Assist with administrative duties, including mail distribution, general filing and  / or archiving of documents as required

 Skills & experience:

As the successful applicant, you will ideally have:

  • Ability to maintain systematic and accurate administrative records;
  • Good computer skills, particularly in relation to word processing, data entry and software packages;
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures;
  • Proven ability in the prioritization of work with minimal supervision;
  • Commitment and achievement in meeting a high level of customer service to all clients.

 Requirements and relevant information:

  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only).
