Morwell Regional Forensic Hub

The Victoria Police Forensic Services Department provides a professional forensic service to Victoria Police and persons involved with the administration of justice. The Morwell Regional Forensic Hub is one of two new facilities bringing a suite of forensic services to regional centers in Victoria.  These services are aimed at assisting in efficient resolution of forensic investigations and providing a more timely service to regional Victoria. They will facilitate significant reductions in transport requirements for frontline police members and enhancing crime clearance rates.

About the Role

As the successful candidate for the role, your duties will involve:

  • Managing the daily operations of the Regional Hub with the objective of achieving client needs and expectations through developing and monitoring performance metrics, coaching and guiding employees and maintaining the highest levels of quality at all times.
  • Aligning the unit's direction with Case Management Group standards and procedures and Forensic Services Department's strategic direction.
  • Partner with colleagues at the Victoria Police Forensic Services Centre and Ballarat Regional Forensic Hub to ensure standardised services consistent with industry best practice.
  • Using ‘LEAN' tools and behaviours to drive business improvement initiatives that maximise efficiency and productivity of the Regional Hub.
  • Engaging with regional police and Victoria Police Command stakeholders to understand and respond to new and emerging issues.
  • Presenting authoritative expert opinion and evidence relating to Regional Hub operations in Courts of Law in an impartial and concise manner. Providing definitive and authoritative casework advice in line with established authorisations.

Please note: An initial three month training plan that takes into account existing skills and experience will be negotiated with the successful candidate. This may involve duties performed at the Victoria Police Forensic Services Centre in Macleod while the Hub facility at Morwell is under construction.

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in science specialising in biology, chemistry or forensics.
  • Demonstrated experience applying forensic science to complex casework and research.
  • Experience in managing a team to achieve their potential and successfully achieve goals.
  • An understanding of National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accreditation requirements.

Citizen Requirements:

A person is not eligible to be appointed to a public service position within Victoria Police unless they are one of the following:

  • An Australian citizen;
  • An Australian permanent resident;
  • A New Zealand citizen who has entered Australia on a valid passport and has unrestricted rights to employment; or
  • Non-citizens holding a valid visa with work rights
