About the Business Area

At VicRoads, we need to make sure all licenced drivers are medically fit to drive and have the necessary skills to drive safely. This is for the driver's safety, as well as the safety of everyone else on the road. We do this by carrying out fitness to drive assessments or medical reviews, aligned to the national medical standards for licensing (Assessing Fitness to Drive for commercial and private vehicle drivers).

About the Role

This role is primarily involved in the assessment of customer medical case files and making fitness to drive decisions through the application of policies, procedures, legislation and the Assessing Fitness to Drive standards.

The role actively provides support/guidance to medical professionals and customers on their cases, and contributes towards the education of staff, key stakeholders and the wider community on the Medical Review process. The Medical Review team includes case file processing and leadership staff. The team also has access to external medical advisors.

This role is a member of the leadership team, one of three roles reporting directly to the Manager, Driver Licensing.

Day to Day Duties

• Handling customer and medical professional phone calls and enquires.

• Provides guidance to staff (including call centre) on escalated cases.

• Primary contact point for VicRoads external medical advisors regarding referred cases.

• Supporting the leadership team or stakeholders with complex cases and the Medical Review process.

About the Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with experience working in a frontline health or allied health environment, including strong customer service and problem-solving skills, together with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. The person will be able to demonstrate strong values of integrity, respect, empathy and accountability and the ability to work as part of a diverse team.
