Position Details

About the Role

The Koori Engagement Officer is a newly created position in a newly created team lead by the Manager, Koori Engagement. Together with the other members of the team which will work with the other members of the Koori Engagement team to develop and implement a Koori Engagement program at VCAT. This role will also be responsible to delivery and implementing a range of initiatives which will support Koori users of VCAT.

This role is also responsible for developing policies, guidelines and providing advice and recommendations, based upon research and relevant data, which aim to increase the access to Tribunal services for the Victorian Koori Community.

The Koori Engagement Officer will also be required to build and maintain relationships with the Victorian Koori Community and other stakeholders from Government and non-Government agencies. They will also assist VCAT's Koori Users by assisting with Tribunal processes and procedures.

Some intrastate travel is required as part of this role to promote VCAT's Koori Engagement Program and to assist Koori users of VCAT.

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under “special measures” of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

About You

You will have a thorough understanding of the Victorian Koori community and the issues impacting on it especially in relation to the Justice system. You will have strong written and verbal communication skills and will have demonstrated these when communicating effectively with members of the Victorian Koori community. In addition, you will have used these skills in providing advice and collecting information from internal and external stakeholders.

You will be highly organised with the ability to deliver on activities with competing priorities and work well within a team to deliver on projects and initiatives.
