Koori Support Officer
The Koori Support Officer is responsible for providing cultural and emotional support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons accessing VCAT. This role will contribute towards increased, positive engagement with Victorian Aboriginal Communities, VCAT staff and Members
An ability to attend the VCAT Community Based Venues of Oakleigh and Frankston would be highly desirable. In addition to an ability to attend VCAT locations within the Melbourne CBD as required to provide in-hearing support to First Nations people, VCAT Members and a range of stakeholders.
The VCAT Koori Support Team is a supportive team of staff who strive to deliver safe, cultural and emotional support, strong referral pathways and positive engagement with the view to empower Aboriginal persons throughout their VCAT experience. The Koori Support Team operates within VCAT Support Services with access to a robust suite of professional training, development and support opportunities in addition to flexibility with respect to base work location

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) is a justice service that resolves a wide range of disputes for the Victorian community, including renting, planning, and consumer disputes. VCAT is committed to delivering an accessible service for all Victorians and is transforming our digital products and services to make it faster, easier, and more convenient for people to come to the tribunal.
About the Role
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Contributing towards the successful operation of the Koori Support Team within the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).
- Engaging and supporting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander persons throughout their VCAT experience.
- Navigating a range of database and case management operating systems
- Participating in various stakeholder meetings and additional forums to provide support, consultation and guidance regarding projects and operational needs.
- Establishing, consulting and maintaining effective working relationships with the Victorian Aboriginal Community and other key internal and external stakeholders, including Government and non-Government agencies, and regularly liaise and negotiate with these stakeholders to proactively identify and resolve issues.
About You
Applicants must possess knowledge of and/or connections to the Victorian Aboriginal community and an ability to engage and support First Nations persons throughout their VCAT experience.
Experience in utilising a range of case management database and operating systems with well developed attention to detail
An ability to manage competing, complex priorities within a dynamic working environment with well established time management practices
Operational knowledge of administrative systems such as Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, incorporating team and individual calendar management
Possession of a current Driver's License would be advantageous.
This is an Aboriginal Designated position in accordance with Court Services Victoria Designated Positions policy. This position is classified under ‘special measures', section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. A ‘Confirmation of Aboriginality' document is required from applicants.
