The impact you'll have:

At the Workplace Injury Commission, we've helped thousands of injured workers and employers to resolve their disputes and move forward with their lives. We're a robust Victorian Government statutory authority that's making an impact.

As we embark on an exciting new chapter of growth, we need you to join us as a Senior Arbitration Officer. In this role you will be an independent statutory decision-maker, responsible for conducting the arbitration and determining disputes as a key contributor to the success of the Workplace Injury Commission arbitration service.

As a senior member of the team, you will participate in the development, planning and monitoring of our arbitration services concerning practice, guidelines and procedures, and also serve as a mentor to other Arbitration Officers.

With integrity, diligence and a collaborative mindset, you will:

  • Be a senior amongst peers, setting the standard for the arbitration service as you hear and make binding determinations on the more complex disputes.
  • Be an active leader, sharing your knowledge, mentoring and contributing to the professional development of Arbitration Officers, nurturing a collegiate environment.
  • Conduct arbitration hearings in a fair, impartial and informal manner, managing a diverse caseload of complex disputes for arbitration, producing well-structured, concise and clear determinations
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and service excellence in partnership with other managers and leaders within WIC

Who we're looking for:

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Tribunal Experience
  • Proven experience leading or conducting arbitration hearings and determining disputes in a fair, impartial and professional way
  • A desire and capability to mentor and develop other decision makers with less arbitration experience, and inspire a cohesive and collaborative team
  • Highly developed legal research, writing, conceptual and analytical skills to help you set the standard for the arbitration of complex disputes, and make appropriate determinations supported by well-articulated and reasoned judgement and decision making
  • Comprehensive knowledge of, and experience working within the Victoria WorkCover scheme or similar scheme
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in law, dispute resolution or business management and extensive experience in conciliation, arbitration or alternative dispute resolution
