About us:

At the Victorian Department of Health we want a future where Victorians are the healthiest people in the world. A Victoria where our children and people thrive, our workplaces are productive and safe, and our communities are more connected.

We see it as our job to support Victorians to stay healthy and safe. And to deliver a world-class healthcare system that ensures every single Victorian can access safe, quality care that leads to better health outcomes for all.

About you:

The Department of Health is seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager to lead the delivery of key initiatives that improve health outcomes for Victorians. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where strategic thinking, collaboration, and innovation are essential to success.

As a Project Manager, you will plan, deliver and monitor projects that align with the department's strategic priorities. You will consult and engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure objectives are clearly defined and achieved on time and within scope. Your ability to anticipate risks, manage issues, and measure performance will be critical to maintaining project quality and impact.

We are looking for a leader who can translate organisational strategy into practical outcomes, build team commitment, and inspire others to perform at their best. You will demonstrate strong systems thinking — identifying trends, challenges and opportunities across the broader health landscape and understanding how complex systems interact to inform effective policy and program design.

Success in this role also requires self-awareness and a commitment to personal growth. You will actively seek feedback, reflect on your approach, and use insights to strengthen your effectiveness and leadership impact.

This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic, results-driven professional to contribute to meaningful work that shapes the health and wellbeing of communities across Victoria. If you thrive on leading projects that deliver real outcomes, we invite you to apply and join a team dedicated to making a difference.

Mandatory

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field is required.
  • Certifications related to project management methodology (such as PRINCE 2 or PMP) or relevant agile delivery is required.
  • Extensive experience as a Project Manager in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) environments, delivering new SaaS-based, COTS, and Microsoft technology-based solutions using agile and waterfall methodologies.

Desirable

  • Agile project and DevOps experience will be advantageous.

On a personal level, the candidate will be a person of integrity who acts in the public interest and upholds the Department's values. They will build strong, trusting relationships across all levels, work collaboratively to achieve team goals, and demonstrate sound judgement and decisiveness — making fair, well-informed decisions even in complex or uncertain situations.

What we offer:

  • The opportunity to perform meaningful work, making direct contributions toward enabling Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.
  • A wide range of growth and development opportunities within the department and wider Victorian Public Service & Sector.
  • A strong commitment to work-life balance, including a diverse array of flexible working arrangements.
