The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Director, Regional Relief & Recovery East to provide a critical role within Emergency Management Victoria.
About the Business Unit
Emergency Management Victoria
Emergency Management Victoria (EMV), within the Department of Justice and Community Safety, is responsible for the overall coordination of the emergency management system in Victoria. EMV drives the integration of policy, strategy, operational coordination, and planning across Victoria's emergency management sector, contributing to safer, more resilient communities.
EMV works closely with government and agencies across the emergency management portfolio. The organisation is led by the Deputy Secretary/ Chief Executive and Emergency Management Commissioner, Emergency Management Victoria and includes oversight of statutory entities and offices and the department's emergency management accountabilities.
About the Role
As a senior leader in Relief & Recovery Coordination and Operations, the Director, Regional Relief & Recovery East, leads the on-ground presence of Emergency Management Victoria in the Hume, Gippsland, Eastern Metro and Southern Metro Emergency Management regions.
This role is a key operational and community facing role that will build genuine partnerships and collaborate across all levels of government, businesses, and not-for-profit organisations to support community-led recovery from emergencies, ensuring the needs of affected individuals, communities and regions are met.
Some of your duties will include:
- Lead Regional Relief & Recovery East, working closely with Regional Relief & Recovery West to achieve the high standards of performance, accountability, collaboration, ethics, and integrity; manage the allocation of resources, budgets, business and project planning and reporting; and demonstrate a strong commitment to a positive culture and the development of staff.
- Lead the delivery of relief coordination in line with accountabilities outlined in the State Emergency Management Plan (SEMP)
- Work in partnership with local government and other key regional stakeholders to support the establishment, governance and operations of relief and recovery committees and associated relief and recovery planning.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Proven senior level experience in relief and recovery operations.
- Proven senior level experience leading teams in complex and geographically dispersed operating environments and ensuring the highest standards of delivery.
- A strong understanding of the processes and levers that apply to Government.
Qualifications/requirements
- Degree level qualifications in an appropriate discipline is desirable.
