Position Details

Short Summary - Worksafe is currently seeking a Manager, Policy and Strategy Services for our Legislation, Policy and Information Services Division (LPIS). The LPIS Division develop and maintain the laws administered by WorkSafe by updating legislative and regulatory instruments to implement government policy. LPIS provides strategic policy advice on OHS and Workers Compensation issues and contributes to national policy forums, including a number of Safe Work Australia forums. The Division also develops codes, guidance and information materials to support duty holder compliance with Victoria's OHS and workers compensation legislation.

WorkSafe is relocating its headquarters to Geelong by 2018. Prior to this date, this role will be based between 222 Exhibition Street, Melbourne and our Geelong interim office.

About the role

The Manager, Policy and Strategy Services will provide leadership to a team of policy and strategy analysts to ensure high quality strategic policy development to implement government priorities and co-ordinate and influence Victoria's input in national policy forums.

The position will ensure the organisation plays an effective role in reducing the incidence of workplace injuries and disease in Victoria and providing an effective worker's compensation scheme. The position will be responsible for working in partnership with the core business, providing expert policy advice relating to legislation, regulations and statutory guidance.


Skills & experience Demonstrated experience in developing legislative and/or strategic policy, gained in a government setting (where possible, within an occupational health and safety, workers' compensation or other regulatory environments) Well-developed technical expertise in strategic policy development, and providing strategic advice and support in the translation and application of policy in a government setting and in a sensitive, time pressured and complex environment Experience in collaboratively managing complex projects and issues Experience in direct management of a number of staff and experience in building policy capability within a team (including developing and coaching individuals and managing performance)Understanding of economic impact assessment processes for regulatory and legislative change High-level analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to provide creative and practical solutions to problems Excellent planning and organisational skills and the proven capability to meet strict timelines/deadlines and self-manage Demonstrated influencing and negotiation skills and ability to establish and maintain trust and confidence with stakeholders
