Division Lawyer, Commercial Division
•Manage and deliver active case management across the Division by conducting mediations and supporting other initiatives to achieve efficient, timely and cost-effective disposition of proceedings
•Provide legal and administrative support to the Judges, Judicial Registrars and Registry staff within the Commercial Division
•Work closely with the judiciary by proactively managing matters between first directions hearings and trial
•Build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including the Victorian Bar, the Law Institute of Victoria, University Clinics and other professional specialist groups

About Us
Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.
Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

The County Court of Victoria is established pursuant to the County Court Act 1958. It has original and appellate jurisdiction and is the principal trial court in the State of Victoria. The Court hears over 12,000 criminal, common law, and commercial cases each year. The County Court has unlimited monetary jurisdiction in common law and commercial matters. In its criminal jurisdiction, the Court hears all indictable offences except treason, murder, and related offences.
There are a total of 80 Judges of the Court and over 300 staff, including judicial support staff. The County Court regularly conducts circuit sittings at 12 circuit courts situated in major centres throughout regional Victoria.

About the Role
The Division Lawyer takes a pro-active approach to improve the overall efficiency of the Division, by:
- working with the judiciary and Registry to identify cases that would benefit from active case management
- reviewing and assessing documents filed in a proceeding, in order to be in a position to advise Judges, Judicial Registrars and members of Commercial Registry team to more efficiently discharge their duties
- working directly with parties and practitioners to identify the real issues in dispute, discuss options for early resolution, facilitate resolution of interlocutory disputes and otherwise reduce or avoid the need for involvement by a Judge or Judicial Registrar; and
- assisting to identify and progress projects and reforms in the Division directed to maximising the efficient use of judicial and other resources of the Division and the timely and cost-effective resolution of commercial proceedings.
About You
Candidates will require a current practicing certificate or be eligible to obtain one. Accreditation in mediation is also required. Experience in commercial litigation is desirable.
