THE ROLE
Manager, Aboriginal Service Design
The Manager, Aboriginal Service Design is a senior member of the Aboriginal Initiatives Unit in the Family & Sexual Violence Programs Branch, Family Safety Victoria, Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
The Manager provides effective leadership of the team responsible for a range of Aboriginal governance structures and provision of high-quality policy, project and reporting support to monitor progress and deliver actions against: Dhelk Dja: Safe Our Way – Strong Culture, Strong Peoples, Strong Families, the Aboriginal 10 year Family Violence Agreement. This team supports the Dhelk Dja Partnership Forum. The Forum is the key governance structure that brings together Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal services and Government to create a future where Aboriginal people live free from family violence.
This role will lead the delivery of critical actions under Dhelk Dja Strategic Priority's three – Self-determining Aboriginal family violence support and services, Priority four – System transformation based on self-determination and Priority five Aboriginal-led and informed innovation, data and research and relevant activities under the Dhelk Dja Three Year Action Plan and the Dhelk Dja 10 Year Agreement.
The Manager will build strong relationships across Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal services, Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and other government departments/agencies to support outcomes in line with Dhelk Dja. The Manager role will provide management and leadership support for a team, and work as part of a collaborative Aboriginal Initiatives Unit leadership group.
The role actively works collaboratively with government and non-government stakeholders across the state in ensuring engagement with Aboriginal communities to develop solutions to issues of family violence involving Aboriginal people. The position is tasked with ensuring that there is Aboriginal voice in the coordination of responses to family violence in Aboriginal communities in line with the principle of self-determination.
The successful applicant will require a strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture and principles of self-determination, as well as proven highly developed leadership, negotiation and relationship building skills. They will also require a strong understanding of public policy and the political environment in relation to Aboriginal communities and the Aboriginal Affairs reform agenda.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE
- Forge strong relationships with Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal services and organisations, government and non-government sectors to facilitate a partnership approach to achieving the strategic priorities outlined in the Dhelk Dja 10 Year Agreement.
- Maintain an understanding of issues impacting stakeholders and projects and identify and actively manage emerging issues and areas of risk.
- Maintain accurate records and project management reports to track progress and outcomes of the Dhelk Dja Agreement and the Partnership Forum, and to meet reporting and other government reporting requirements.
