About this role
The Senior Policy Officer is part of a team that supports the development of contemporary policy, regulatory design and legislative reforms for earth resources to enable investment and generate jobs through the development of the State's resources, while protecting public safety and the environment. Working with the Manager, Policy Advice, the Senior Policy Officer provides advice to the Department's Executive and the Minister for Resources, based on the analysis of the social, economic and environmental factors relevant the earth resources sector, including engagement with industry stakeholders, community leaders and other agencies.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Comprehensive research and analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions to complex policy issues.
- Demonstrated experience providing high-level authoritative advice on matters relating to policy, governance and regulatory issues to senior leaders.
- Strong stakeholder management and teamwork skills with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively, build relationships and work collaboratively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders and colleagues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in preparing Cabinet submissions, Ministerial briefs, and/or reports to senior management.
- A tertiary qualification in natural resource management, economics, law, planning and environment, public policy or another relevant field would be well regarded.
This is a fixed term position available for a period until 30 June 2025. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
