About the role
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is thrilled to offer various ongoing and fixed term Lawyer roles at our Ringwood office. As a Lawyer, you'll provide high-quality legal services, duty lawyer support, casework and advice, with a primary focus on criminal law and family violence. You'll also advocate for our clients in various courts and tribunals and help improve access to justice for those who need it most.

The Ringwood Office is one of VLA's largest metropolitan offices, providing services to Heidelberg and Ringwood Magistrates Courts, the Mental Health Review Tribunal, and various outreach services. The office is home to approximately 65 staff members and enjoys an excellent workplace culture. Travel is required for this role. The role will require regular attendance at the Heidelberg Magistrates Court in addition to attendance at the Ringwood Magistrate's Court.

This role is based at our Ringwood office on Wurundjeri Country.

About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

• Ability to represent clients in criminal law and family violence matters in court.
• A current Australian practising certificate that entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
• High-level interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with clients, staff, and external stakeholders, handling sensitive and complex issues.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to a supportive team environment and manage multiple priorities efficiently.
• Commitment to delivering high-quality legal services and ensuring clients receive the support they need.
