About this role
About the role:
As the technical data lead in the System Reform unit, you will work within a team to deliver practical, user-friendly data tools and products for both internal and external users. You will be creative and have strong coding skills, and able to turn raw data into meaningful outputs using your knowledge of health data. Strong teamwork and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as you will interact with data users to understand their needs, integrate feedback into your work, and collaborate with colleagues to produce high-quality products.
Your primary focus will be providing data outputs to support the delivery of the Health Services Plan (available at www.health.vic.gov.au/research-and-reports/health-services-plan), which was announced by the Premier in August 2024.The Plan aims to build a more connected health system that ensures all Victorians receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place.

We work collaboratively with other teams in the department – such as health service managers, evaluators, data scientists and policy specialists – as well as with health sector representatives. About you:
- Is passionate about making a real difference to people's health by using their data skills to support large-scale, systemic hospital reforms
- Has an excellent understanding of health data, including its real-life context and limitations
- Is enthusiastic about transforming raw health data into practical, user-friendly tools and meaningful insights. Their work will provide real-world evidence that empowers stakeholders to make informed, impactful decisions, in both operations and policy, and
- Thrives in a collaborative environment, sharing ideas, developing and testing options, and delivering high-quality, practical solutions
- Demonstrated experience working with large-scale datasets and relational databases, including using SQL for the analysis and delivery of data products
- Experience developing and delivering data tools, dashboards and visualisation using software such as Power BI
- Knowledge of health data.
In addition, strong knowledge of the Victorian hospital system and associated data is highly desirable.
