About the role
Are you ready to lead at the intersection of policy, regulation, and emergency response in one of Victoria's most vital sectors? As Director, Energy Safety and Security within the Energy Group at DEECA, you'll head a high-performing team responsible for safeguarding the reliability, security, and safety of the state's energy systems—across electricity, gas, and liquid fuels. From overseeing emergency preparedness to driving major reform initiatives, this is a rare opportunity to influence state-wide outcomes and build strategic partnerships that protect Victoria's energy future.
About you:
To be successful in the role, you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification is desirable.
- Experience in energy policy and/ or emergency management is desirable but not necessary.
- Leadership skills to build and maintain a constructive, high-performing team culture.
About the Branch
The Energy Safety and Security Branch develops policy and programs and administers legislation to provide for safe, reliable, and secure energy networks for Victorians. This includes energy safety, energy emergency management, energy security and preparedness and gas pipeline regulation.
We lead key government initiatives including the State Emergency Management Plan – Energy sub-plan, and the Energy Safety Review.
We work with Emergency Management Victoria, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), Energy Safe Victoria, network licensees and energy producers, domestic and industry consumers, and other stakeholders.
This is a fixed term position available for a period of up to 5 years. The work location for this position is Melbourne CBD with hybrid work arrangements available.
