Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) Emergency Management includes the department's emergency management accountabilities delivered through Emergency Management Victoria, Emergency Recovery Victoria, Sector Performance and Reform and emergency management statutory entities and offices. The work of the group supports the emergency management sector to work together and to strengthen the capacity of individuals, communities, government, agencies and business to achieve our shared vision of safer and more resilient communities and to rebuild and recover after an emergency.
Emergency Recovery Victoria
Emergency Recovery Victoria (ERV) is responsible for state and regional relief and recovery coordination for all emergencies to help communities build back better and emerge stronger. ERV is a business unit within the Department of Justice and Community Safety. Working directly with impacted communities, all levels of government, agencies and industry, ERV coordinates real, effective and timely support that communities need to recover after a major emergency. As well as providing strategic leadership on whole-of-government relief and recovery activities and delivering state recovery outcomes. ERV supports locally led recovery efforts to support councils and ensure that community is at the centre of recovery.
What will the role do?
The Advisor, Assurance Evaluations and Continuous Improvement is required to work collaboratively with team members and internal and external stakeholders and be able to build genuine partnerships and collaborate across all levels of government, businesses, and not-for-profit organisations to support community-led recovery from emergencies, ensuring that recovery programs meet the needs of affected individuals, businesses, communities and regions.
The role requires flexibility and responsiveness, as well as strategic thinking and experience working within a dynamic policy context.
Key duties include:
- Support the development of policy and provide strategic advice
- Assist with planning and coordination activities for the State Recovery Coordination and Operations business unit within ERV.
- Contribute to ministerial and parliamentary processes, provide advice on current and emerging issues and opportunities; and follows issues through to completion.
- The position will assist the organisation with long term recovery aims, governance, collaboration and liaison

What skills and knowledge should the Advisor, Assurance Evaluations and Continuous Improvement have?
- Experience supporting policy or projects in complex and geographically dispersed operating environments and ensuring the highest standards of delivery is desirable.
- An understanding of the processes, policies and procedures within government and public sector accountability is desirable.
- Experience with MS PowerPoint and slide production highly desirable.
- Experience in emergency recovery is desirable.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in policy or public administration is desirable.
