Join South West Healthcare (SWH) as a Senior Biomedical Engineer and help ensure the safety and performance of life-saving medical equipment across our hospital and regional health services.
South West Healthcare (SWH) is at a fascinating point in its history, with multiple projects including
- The $384m Warrnambool Base Hospital re-development project;
- The selection and implementation of a medical device asset database;
- A major update to the Electronic Health Record;
- Role as fund holder for the recently established South West Local Health Service Network.
The Senior Biomedical Engineer role will play a significant part in supporting these projects and lead SWH to its strategic goals of “Integrated, High Quality Care” and “Infrastructure that Supports Best Care”, providing career defining opportunities for the successful applicant.

Position overview
- Classification: Biomedical Engineer Class 3
- Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time (80 hours per fortnight) with a monthly ADO
- Location: Warrnambool Campus
- Salary Range: $93,891 - $100,322.56 per annum, plus superannuation
About the Role
As a key member of our Biomedical Engineering Services team, you will:
- Maintain, service, and calibrate high-acuity and general medical equipment
- Provide technical advice for the purchase, installation, and safe use of medical devices
- Lead and support projects, including our Stage 2 redevelopment and asset management initiatives
- Assist with risk analysis, reporting, equipment evaluation, and regulatory compliance
- Provide education and support to clinical and engineering staff
This is a vital role that supports the delivery of high-quality, safe healthcare to patients across the region.
What You will Bring
- A degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or similar
- 5+ years' experience in a biomedical or clinical engineering environment
- Industry training with major manufacturers (e.g. GE, Philips, Draeger)
- Strong fault-finding, testing, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in IT systems including Windows and Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of standards such as AS/NZS 3551, IEC 60601, ISO 14791
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Current Australian Driver's Licence
Desirable:
- Experience with asset management or maintenance systems
- Supervisory or mentoring experience
- Familiarity with procurement processes and Victorian public health regulations
- Understanding of medical device EHR integration
