The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.

About the Group
Schools and Regional Services (SRS) offers central, regional, and local expertise to enhance learning and development outcomes, supported by a diverse and geographically dispersed workforce. It comprises 17 areas within 4 regions, backed by 5 central office divisions, all collaborating to deliver improved outcomes for early childhood services, schools, communities, and learners, in line with Education State commitments. SRS regions serve as a bridge between the central office, schools, and service providers, ensuring smooth transitions for learners and achieving the department's ambitious targets. Each region includes divisions specialising in school performance, student wellbeing and early childhood support, working with area-based teams to tailor local interventions and practices. The 17 areas provide crucial insights into local trends and issues, facilitating effective policy and program development and driving child and learner outcomes across all services and programs.
This role is located in the Wellbeing and Engagement Unit, Student Wellbeing and Engagement Division, North-East Victoria Region, SRS.
About the Role
The role of AH4 Behaviour Coach is to support the Department's goal of building the capability and skills of regional teams to use behavioural science to support students with complex behaviours of concern, as part of the Department's Behaviour Coaching service delivery. The Behaviour Coach will report to the Inclusion, Access and Participation Manager.
The Behaviour Coach will support their Region and BCBA through coaching and training of SSS and school teams, and may work directly with school-aged children with complex behaviours of concern that may pose a safety risk to themselves, other students and staff. Specifically, this will involve some or all of the following tasks:
- participation in workshops, webinars and project meetings
- coaching and support to Regional staff on using behavioural science methodology to conduct FBAs and develop BSPs for students with complex behaviours
- providing professional learning for SSS teams to become facilitators of the Inclusive Classrooms online professional learning module on behaviour
- on-site coaching and feedback for SSS working with students with complex behaviours
- on-site coaching and feedback of school teams supporting students with complex behaviours
- assistance with developing and training teachers to implement Tier 1 & 2 classroom behavioural programs
- assistance with data collection, graphing, and progress monitoring of student data
- assistance with staff fidelity of implementation data
- assistance with SSS fidelity of implementation data
- meetings with BCBAs to triage referrals, student cases, and identify staff training needs
- liaise with and connect key Area and Regional staff into the strategic planning for Behaviour Coaching service delivery.
The Behaviour Coach will be required to travel as needed within their Region in undertaking these tasks: this may involve overnight travel.
Attributes

- Demonstrated experience and expertise working directly with students who exhibit complex and dangerous behaviours of concern and possess experience with School-Wide Positive Behaviour Supports. Also demonstrated expertise in the following:
- conducting Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs) in school settings
- coaching staff and school teams with Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)
- data collection, graphing, and analysis of student behavioural data
- conducting school training and professional development sessions
- Demonstrated capacity to lead opportunities to further develop colleagues at a region and state wide level through sharing of professional knowledge. Also demonstrated ability to improve other's skills and talents by providing constructive feedback, coaching and training opportunities, and empowering families to advocate for their child.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead experienced professionals in the delivery of the program in an educational environment whilst applying best practice principles to strengthen and improve service outcomes.
- Highly developed empathy and cultural awareness by:
- paying attention to words, expressions and body language
- paraphrasing messages to check
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Essential : Experience working within Australian school systems
Essential : Higher Education coursework and training in Applied Behaviour Analysis
Essential : Postgraduate degree in relevant discipline (education, psychology, counselling, social work, speech pathology)
