- Salary range: $90,871 - $101,868 (pro rata) plus super plus salary packaging

About the role
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is recruiting lawyers to join our Peninsula and Gippsland teams. These roles offer a chance to work on interconnected legal issues while supporting people facing significant social and economic disadvantage. Travel to provide community outreach is part of the role, and we offer flexible working arrangements.
We have the following roles available:
- Lawyer – Criminal Law & Family Violence, Frankston (up to 12 months)
Provide high-quality legal services primarily in criminal law and family violence. You'll offer advice, manage casework, and appear as a duty lawyer. - Lawyer – Generalist, Bairnsdale or Morwell (ongoing)
Deliver legal support in criminal law and family violence matters. You'll work on complex cases and appear in court across a range of jurisdictions. - Lawyer – Assessment and Referral Court (ARC), Morwell (ongoing)
Represent and advocate for clients with mental illness, cognitive disabilities, or neurological impairments. Help connect people with supports that address the root causes of legal issues.
These roles are based at our Frankston office on Bunurong Country, Morwell or Bairnsdale offices on Gunai Kurnai Country.
About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
- Experience representing clients in legal settings, along with strong skills in providing clear, practical legal advice and managing casework.
- Sound knowledge and practical experience in criminal law, family violence matters, and relevant legal processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including clients facing complex challenges.
- A collaborative mindset and a commitment to working as part of a supportive, values-driven team.
