- Deliver a range of grounds and landscape maintenance tasks—including mowing, brush cutting, weed control, and irrigation—while working collaboratively as part of a dedicated team.
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focussing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime.
Youth Justice Custodial Services aim to engage young people in change by addressing their offending behaviour and equipping them with the skills required for positive community participation, within a safe and secure environment
The Landscape and Grounds Maintenance Officer will work within a team and report to the Grounds Maintenance Coordinator. You will be responsible for maintaining the 76.5-hectare property including areas of Native Grasslands (Conservation) and Areas of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Potential.
The opportunity
- Ongoing, full-time position based at Cherry Creek, Melbourne.
- VPS 3 role: $79,122 - $96,073 per year plus super.
- Maintenance and upkeep of grounds at the Youth Justice Precinct to a high standard, creating a safe and hospitable place for young people, staff and visitors.
- Work as part of a team providing services such as mowing, brush cutting, weed control, artificial turf maintenance, landscaping works, irrigation system maintenance, new garden beds etc.
- Perform physical work activities that require substantial body movements such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping whilst engaging with machines, tools and material.
- Operate and maintain machinery, tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
To be successful in this role you will have experience in landscape and grounds maintenance with the ability to perform varied horticulture periodic, general and reactive maintenance tasks. You will also be an experienced operator of machinery, tools and equipment used for grounds maintenance.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
