Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is the first level of the Victorian court system and is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria. It has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 locations, equating to approximately 90 percent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible, and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the Role
The Family Violence Applicant Practitioner (FVAP) is a specialist role within the Magistrates' Court of Victoria, working as part of a team to support victims of family violence and ensure perpetrators are held accountable. The FVAP provides non-legal support, assesses safety risks, and connects applicants with community services.
- Provide non-legal information and support to family violence applicants at court
- Assess immediate safety risks and develop tailored safety plans
- Refer applicants to community agencies for ongoing support and counselling
- Collaborate with court staff, police prosecutors, lawyers, and support services
- Liaise with magistrates and may provide information in court
- Build and maintain relationships with community services to ensure effective referrals

About You
- Tertiary qualification social work, psychology, social sciences, or related field, in addition to demonstrated strong experience working with people who have experienced family violence
- You have demonstrated experience in completing comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning aligned with the MARAM framework
- You have proven skills in providing support during crisis situations, managing risk, and coordinating cases effectively
- You possess a strong understanding of the Family Violence Protection Act 2008 and the associated risk assessment and management framework
